Since our decision on August 20 to upgrade all Mintion W1 orders to the injection-molded production version, we have been moving quickly to prepare for mass production. By late August, the part layout for tooling had been finalized, mold production had started, and the first batch of PCBs had already entered production. Our original plan was to begin shipping by the end of September.
As pre-orders continued and more of our 3D-printed test units were placed in the hands of internal testers, we received more real-world feedback.
One of the most frequently requested new features was automatic stop when the filament runs out. Around 30 users had requested this feature by early September, and by mid-September, that number had grown to more than 60.
At the same time, feedback from our beta testers (the 3D-printed parts version) also highlighted opportunities to further improve roller noise, wear resistance, and drivetrain reliability when filament becomes tangled or a source spool unexpectedly jams.
By this point, the molds were already close to completion, and the first batch of PCBs had already been produced.
After repeated evaluation, we made the difficult decision to pause the original production schedule, modify the molds, redesign the PCB, and include these improvements directly in the first production batch of the W1.
