Mintion W1 Pre-Order Update: All Orders Upgraded to the Injection-Molded Production Version

Since launching the Mintion W1 for pre-order, we’ve received strong interest along with valuable feedback from users, 3D printing communities, content creators, and distributors.

That feedback confirmed the demand for the W1—and also encouraged us to move faster on the next step.

We have decided to bring forward our injection-molding schedule, originally planned for late September, and upgrade all pre-orders directly to the injection-molded production version.

All Pre-Orders Will Be Upgraded

Our original plan was to ship a small batch of 3D-printed W1 units first, then transition to injection-molded production.

However, many users told us they care about long-term durability, structural stability, and overall product finish. Some distributors also made it clear that they prefer the final production version.

Based on that feedback, we have decided to stop regular retail shipment of the 3D-printed version and move directly to injection-molded production.

If you have already placed a pre-order, no action is required:

• Your order will automatically be upgraded to the injection-molded production version
• Your $89.99 Early Bird price remains unchanged
• There is no additional upgrade cost
• Estimated shipping is now scheduled for mid to late September

A limited number of 3D-printed units will remain for internal testing and selected partner evaluations only.

Improved Filament Securing Method

In our early demonstration videos, we used a piece of black tape to secure the filament end to the Bambu spool.

Some users pointed out that this method could potentially interfere with later AMS use, while standard adhesive tape may also be less reliable in higher-temperature drying conditions.

For the production version, we will use a smaller, more suitable high-temperature-resistant tape solution, with a clearly defined placement and usage method.

As an additional benefit, early pre-order customers will receive one roll of high-temperature-resistant tape at no extra cost.

Filament and Spool Compatibility

We have also received many questions about compatibility, including whether the W1 can handle PLA, PLA+, TPU, ABS, ASA, cardboard spools, and different third-party spool designs.

Our internal testing has now covered mainstream 3D printing materials and a variety of spool types, and they can be respoolled normally with the W1.

In addition to its primary use case—transferring third-party filament onto Bambu reusable spools—the W1 can also work with certain other receiving spools of compatible dimensions, while supporting source spools of up to 3kg.

We will continue to show these use cases through real-world demonstration videos.

Winding Results

The W1 now uses a linear rail and sliding filament guide, and after several rounds of structural refinement, winding stability and consistency have improved significantly.

Proper setup and starting technique can also affect the final winding result, so we will provide clear usage guidance to help users achieve the best possible results.

Why We Chose to Upgrade Early

We could have followed the original plan and shipped the 3D-printed version first, then introduced the injection-molded version later.

But after reviewing the feedback from our early users, we believe the better decision is to make that upgrade now, before the first production units are delivered.

This does mean a longer wait, but every existing pre-order will receive the upgraded production version while keeping the original $89.99 Early Bird price.
